Reinforcement Schedule – My 30-day plan to earn points
Behavior will be more frequently exhibited if the behavior is followed by a positive consequence. This very basic observation from behavioral therapy can be capitalized on by using so-called “reinforcement schedules” that define desired behavior and reward its occurrence. Reinforcement schedules can assist by documenting the behavior and providing a reward for said behavior.
A reinforcement schedule or “points plan” visualizes the implementation of desired behaviour and “rewards” it with points. The points can be exchanged for a reward once a certain amount has been achieved.
With this reinforcement plan worksheet, you, your patient or your client can write down up to four desired behaviors and check each off daily. They can decide for themselves how many points they should collect, what they should treat themselves to as a small interim reward and what their big final reward should look like. The points plan is a great way to visualize progress and motivates them to “stick with it”. New, positive activities are thus more easily integrated into everyday life and quickly become a habit.
In this download you will receive the one-page worksheet and the example form for filling out the reward schedule.
