Core beliefs are (often unconscious) fundamental beliefs that a person has about themselves, other people and the world. In behavioral therapy, core beliefs play an important role as they can influence a person’s behavior and experiences. For this reason, we often work in our therapy practice to identify and change unfavorable core beliefs in order to positively influence a person’s behavior and emotions.
Unlike with automatic thoughts, identifying core beliefs is sometimes a little tricky, which is why they are unfortunately sometimes neglected. With this comprehensive set of worksheets core beliefs will no longer be neglected in your therapy practice or coaching!
In this download, you will receive four corresponding PDF files. “Understanding core beliefs” is used for psychoeducation and clearly explains to patients and clients what core beliefs are. “Identifying core beliefs” consists of an example worksheet and a separate worksheet to fill out together with your patient. Following the identification of dysfunctional core beliefs, I recommend the “Challenge Negative Thoughts” worksheet. This serves to re-evaluate unhealthy core beliefs.
